1995 Retrospective
In November 1995, a John Stermer Retrospective was held at Western New Mexico University. The proceeds from the poster and booklet sales set up a scholarship fund.

2007 New Mexico Down Under
In 2007, the South Broadway Cultural Center in Albuquerque, NM presented “NEW MEXICO DOWN UNDER” exploring the art of six Modernists from Southwestern New Mexico. The exhibit was installed in two galleries, The KiMo Art Space and The South Broadway Cultural Center. Featured artists were:

View from Leopold Vista
The John Stermer piece, “View from Leopold Vista”, was the centerpiece of the exhibition, loaned from the Albuquerque Museum’s permanent collection.
